The Unterlinden museum is an association located in the Alsatian town of Colmar (Haut-Rhin) museum.

It is managed for over 150 years by the Schongaue Company. Around the thirteenth century cloister unfold collections from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The most famous work, the Isenheim Altarpiece has found its place in the former monastery church.
After the departure of the nuns during the French Revolution, the buildings gradually abandoned, used as military barracks until the mid-nineteenth century. Several events will then contribute to the birth of the museum: the creation of the Société Schongauer and the organization of a firm prints by Louis Hugot in 1847, the discovery of a mosaic in Bergheim Gallo-Roman in 1848, which is filed Unterlinden the church. The Unterlinden museum is primarily known for being a showcase of Rhenish art in France with its remarkable collections of paintings and sculptures representative of the art of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, a period during which the Upper Rhine was a true age gold. Much of the ancient art collection assembled in Colmar when the Revolution comes from churches and convents in the Colmar region. At this primitive funds which combines the Isenheim Altarpiece, the crucifixion of Colmar, the altarpiece of Bergheim, were added many works acquired throughout the twentieth century.
