Opened in 1845 as a museum to house the works from churches and monasteries being closed, it is located in the premises of the convent of San Salvi.

In the larger rooms of the convent are exposed important paintings of the first half of the sixteenth century, reflecting the development of Florentine painting of that period. Among the most important works include those of Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto, Giuliano Bugiardini, Raffaellino del Garbo, Franciabigio, Bachiacca.

In the refectory, you will see the large fresco by Andrea del Sarto representing the Last Supper (1520), considered the masterpiece of the painter.
