The Natural History Museum of Rouen was founded in 1828 by Felix Archimede Pouchet (1800-1872). It occupies the convent of Santa Maria (seventeenth century) to Rouen.

Dr. Georges Pennetier was its curator from 1873 to 1923 and Robert Regnier of 1924-1965.
By the richness and diversity of its collections, it is the second largest museum in France after the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris.
