The Museum of natural history of Toulon and the Var is a public institution, depending on the direction of the environment of the general Council of the Var. It is an institution whose collections, composed partly of protected species (flora and fauna), are governed by the law of conservation of 1976. It presents the main areas of natural history in specific spaces: the "mineral Kingdom" in permanent rooms on the ground floor, the plant Kingdom in the beer garden and a showcase of the ground floor, and the animal Kingdom on the floor. On the ground floor is also a temporary exhibition room.

Founded in 1888, the Museum of natural history of Toulon, originally located in the city center in a wing of the Museum including the other wing was devoted to art, was transferred in 2003 to the Conseil Général du var and installed in 2011 in its new premises to the Northwest of the city, in the Valley of the Las, along this river, in the "garden plants» Toulonsays 'Garden of the Las', classified "sensitive natural space".
