Reproduced from the building designed by Maybeck for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (1915), the rotunda and peristyle attract many visitors today.

Tentative, the original building was made of a thin metal frame coated with plaster and burlap. The walls had been sprayed to mimic travertine. At the end of the Exhibition, instead of being dismantled to make way for a residential area, the Fine Arts Palace was saved thanks to the lobbying of the inhabitants. But the building remained in the state, has slowly disintegrated until 1962: columns, statues and other original elements were molded and completely rebuilt in concrete and steel building.

The original concept was largely inspired by the romantic style, including the royal tomb of the Isle of the Dead (Böcklin, 1880). To see: the rotunda and its 8 reliefs; the angels of the dome ceiling and duck pond which, on clear days, reflects the sky.
