We all share a connection with marine mammals and the ocean. In fact, their health teaches us volumes about our own. That’s why The Marine Mammal Center is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating hundreds of sick seals and sea lions every year, while fostering a better understanding of their world and inspiring ocean conservation.

Located just a stone’s throw from downtown Sausalito in the Marin Headlands, the Marine Mammal Center was started in 1975 by three animal advocates with little more than kiddie pools, bath tubs and the passion to do what’s right.

Since those humble beginnings, with the help of supporters, donors and over 1,100 volunteers, The Marine Mamal center has rescued over18,500 animals (including our 10,000th sea lion!), from along 600 miles of California coastline and Hawaii, giving thousands of animals, including the critically endangered Hawaiian monk seal, a second chance at life in the wild.

Due to the volume of animals rescue, the Marine Mammal Center is the largest marine mammal hospital in the world.
